Budget Tight? You Can Still Redecorate

Redecorating-Your-HomeAre you fed up with your kitchen/bedroom/basement (fill in room here) and would love to gut the space top to bottom, with a complete do-over?

Is your budget at odds with your décor dreams?

While the renos may be beyond your budget, there is no reason that you can’t refresh and reinvent. If you can DIY, you can save a lot of money.

The Kitchen

The kitchen is the heart of every home- both emotionally and financially. While you may not have a large budget to work with, money invested in updating your kitchen will be the most easily recouped should you ever try to sell your home (bathrooms updates are usually worth it too).

While a new row of custom cabinetry would be awesome (awesomely expensive too), you can create a new look simply by painting cabinet doors. Replace old hardware with shiny bling and the whole room is different.

Swap out a tired light fixture some something fun and functional and replace fixtures and faucets with more sleek designs. This costs very little, and can go far to bringing the kitchen to the modern day.

The Bathroom

The bathroom can be expensive to do over, simply because of the costs of basic bathroom elements (sink, toilet, tub, shower).

This is a room where a slap of new paint can change everything. Avoid darker colours if your bathroom is smaller, because it will shrink the space and make it seem smaller than it is.

Vanities can be painted too. Hang a funky new mirror on the wall, along with some cool art and fresh flowers, and your bathroom is brand new.

Living Space

This high traffic area is likely a focal point in your home. Replace lampshades and switch plates.

Relatively inexpensive and somewhat easy (even for the handyman challenged), crown moulding and/or trim can go far to add visual interest and to make a room look more modern.

Even moving the furniture around can make a space seem new.
