Making the best of midsummer sale season
It comes along every year at this time, just as you’re enjoying your summer, the consumer gods give you even more to be thrilled about: it’s midsummer sale season. All the stores are recognizing that the downfall of summer is 6-8 weeks away. So, in that desperate need to remind you that autumn is around the corner, all the shops put half of their inventory on sale or promotion to make sure there’s room for new stuff to come in.
You’ll see it in garden sections, as they prepare to clear out. You’ll see it in clothing stores as they anticipate the arrival of soft sweater. Midsummer sales are sprouting all over the place and all you need to do is recognize what purchases are worthwhile and necessary so you can reap the benefits of this frugal-friendly time of year.
Tip #1: Make sure not to let the sale signs trick you into making unnecessary purchases. Decide what you will actually need. For example, if a pair of jeans is on sale and they can be worn throughout all the seasons, snag them. Buying season-versatile clothing is a great way of making sure you dollar goes further.
Tip #2: If something can be kept until next summer, grab it. Certain things like seeds and seed mixes for the garden, can be kept in the garage until next summer. Just make sure they are sealed and contained properly so as to avoid freeze-burn.
Tip #3: If you know that you are going to have to buy something like a television or appliance, keep the midsummer sales in mind. You may get a deal on something that is going to last you a long time. It’s always nice getting a discount on an investment item, isn’t it?
Tip #4: Stock up on things that the kids might need for school whether it be clothes, stationery or snacks at bulk stores that can keep in the pantry.
